AWE + WONDER – TO BEHOLD HIM

AWE + WONDER  – TO BEHOLD HIM

The Christmas season is upon us and as we prepare to get all our shopping done and gifts wrapped, we must remember to pause and behold what this season truly is all about. We hear the adage, “Jesus is the reason for the season,” and we tend to skim right past it because we have heard it so many times; but…. what if we didn’t?

This season is a time to behold the coming of The Christ child; to allow ourselves to experience the awe and wonder of who He is; to be grateful for His arrival and for the privilege to have a personal relationship with Him. Jesus, born to us as a baby, was still the name above every other name; the King of kings and the Lord of lords, as Mary placed Him in the manger that night so long ago.

To stand in awe and wonder of Jesus is to worship Him. Romans 12:1 tells us what worship truly is. “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.” How we live our lives every single day is our act of worship toward Jesus. Not simply the songs we sing at Church on the weekend or in our car, not simply because it’s the Christmas season but every single day presenting our entire life to Him, living His will above our own.

The definition of the word Awe according to The International Standard Bible Encyclopedia is: A heightened emotional state characterized by a commingling of fear, astonishment and terror with wonder, veneration and reverence. WOW!! How often do we stand in awe of Jesus and bring Him our worship with our full selves every single day?

Jesus says in the book of John, “God is Spirit, and we must worship Him in Spirit and in truth.” Jesus is sharing that those who worship Him must share the nature of who He is. When we live in awe of God in reverence, we bring our genuine worship to Him with our entire selves.  We must not take our relationship with Him for granted but come with a correct viewpoint that He is the Lord of our lives and the Savior of the world. We hold Him in high regard and never allow our relationship with Him to grow casual.

Action: This week be intentional every day in pausing to behold and stand in awe of Jesus; what His arrival here on the earth meant for all of humanity forever. Stop and ponder what our lives would be like without Him and give thanks that we don’t ever have to experience that. Then…. share the good news of Jesus with someone in your world by sharing this devotion with them along with an invite to Church.
