AWE + WONDER - THE WONDER OF IT ALL

THE WONDER OF IT ALL
The word “wonder” can be drawn back to one of the names of Jesus; Wonderful Counselor. We read in Isaiah 9:6, “For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on His shoulders. And He will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
As we read through The Bible, we see the word wonder used in relation to the miraculous works of God. In the Gospels the word “wonder” is primarily drawn out by the marvelous displays of Christ's power and wisdom. Expressing the greatness of God!
As we talked last week about beholding Jesus and standing in awe of who He is; how often are we caught up in the wonder, the greatness of God?
As we get closer to Christmas, we tend to become more stressed in trying to figure out the timing of everything. Keeping the calendar straight with the parties, the kid’s Christmas concerts, “When are they supposed to wear their Christmas sweater to school again??” We can run ourselves into the ground, all in the name of Christmas cheer and making sure we stay on task.
The Christmas story and arrival of Jesus should remind us that God’s timing is perfect and as long as we are operating on His schedule, we will have perfect peace. We seek Him first and He makes sure we have everything we need. The Christmas season should be peace filled, not stress filled if our focus is correct.
The wonder of the arrival of Jesus is in the details. The miracle of Mary being chosen by God and her willing “yes”. The worry turned to peace we see in Joseph as he took in the dream of the angel letting him know all would be well. The timing of Mary and Joseph needing to travel to Bethlehem; the available stable Jesus was born in. The shepherds, the lowest of the low being the first to worship Him and of course God’s divine protection through it all.
The wonder.
Let’s not miss what is right in front of us this Christmas season. Slow down, take a breath, take in the miracle that came to pass just for us and worship Him today. Jesus and the wonder of who He is.
Action: With your family every day this week, write down something you’ve noticed in the scriptures of the arrival of Jesus that is wonderful to you. What stands out differently than ever before? Talk about this together and see how the Holy Spirit brings fresh revelation to you in these scriptures.
Scriptures: Isaiah 9:6, Luke 2, Psalm 89:5, Psalm 139:1-6, Matthew 6:33, John 4:24
